Rapper and content creator Chinedu, popularly known as Triple Pin, has shared his emotional experience after surviving the Enugu Air aircraft that veered off the runway while landing at Benin Airport, describing the incident as a life-changing moment.
In a video posted on his Instagram page following Thursday’s incident, Triple Pin said he had only watched aviation accidents in movies and online before finding himself in a similar situation.
He reflected on how close he came to losing his life, saying the experience made him think about his dreams and future.
Recalling the flight, the content creator said heavy rainfall had reduced visibility, leaving him wondering how the pilot was able to navigate the challenging weather conditions.
According to him, the aircraft spent some time circling in the air while attempting to land before the situation took an unexpected turn.
He said the aircraft eventually left the runway and headed toward nearby vegetation, causing panic among passengers as loud noises filled the cabin.
Triple Pin expressed gratitude that everyone on board escaped unharmed, adding that he believed the rainfall may have helped prevent a more devastating outcome.
He thanked God for surviving the incident without sustaining any injuries.
The incident occurred after an Enugu Air Embraer E170 aircraft operating Flight 4264 from Lagos to Benin overran the end of Runway 05 while landing at Benin Airport at about 3:10 p.m. on Thursday.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed that the aircraft was carrying 63 passengers and five crew members and that all occupants were safely evacuated without injuries.
The bureau said investigators were immediately deployed to the scene to gather evidence, inspect the aircraft, assess runway conditions and interview the flight crew as part of an ongoing investigation.
NSIB Director-General, Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., described the safe evacuation of everyone on board as encouraging but emphasised that every runway excursion is a serious aviation incident that requires a comprehensive and independent investigation.
Enugu Air also confirmed the occurrence, stating that all passengers and crew members safely disembarked and that temporary flight schedule adjustments may be necessary while investigations continue.
