The senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fadeyi, who left the PDP for the APC in July 2025 alongside four other members of the National Assembly, announced his return to the opposition party during a telephone interview on Thursday.
According to the lawmaker, he has already notified the Senate of his decision and confirmed that he will contest the 2027 Senate election for Osun Central under the PDP.
“I am back in the PDP led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, His Excellency Nyesom Wike. I have already written to the Senate. I can also confirm that I am the PDP candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 election,” he said.
In his resignation letter to the Senate, Fadeyi explained that his decision to leave the APC was influenced by the conduct of the party’s primary process for the 2027 National Assembly elections in Osun State.
He stated that he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Tinubu within his senatorial district, believing that assurances given to him regarding the party’s senatorial ticket would be respected.
According to the senator, it had been agreed that candidates would emerge through a consensus arrangement. However, he alleged that the agreement was not honoured, claiming that no genuine consensus was reached and that the primary process lacked transparency.
Fadeyi said the developments created a breakdown of trust within the party and made his continued membership impossible.
He also expressed disappointment over what he described as the disregard for the leadership and authority of President Tinubu, whom he praised for his commitment to due process, party unity and democratic principles.
The senator further alleged that while other lawmakers who defected with him from the PDP to the APC were given return tickets, he was denied the opportunity to contest the 2027 election under the party’s platform.
He maintained that his resignation was not directed against President Tinubu but was based on his belief that fairness, mutual trust and respect for agreements should remain the foundation of democratic politics.
