Ogun Police Expand Search for Gunmen Behind Ipara Hostel Abductions
The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for gunmen who abducted an unspecified number of people, believed to include students, during an attack on a private hostel in the Ipara area of the state.
Police said tactical teams and intelligence operatives have been deployed to track down the attackers and secure the safe release of the victims.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at a private hostel located along Paraga Road in Ipara, where students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, reside off campus.
The attack triggered panic among students and residents, with conflicting reports circulating on social media about the number of people kidnapped.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the institution clarified that the incident did not happen within the school premises.
The statement, signed by SUG President Timothy Akinpelu and Public Relations Officer Francis Mathew, explained that the gunmen stormed the hostel at about 7:45 p.m.
According to the union, the hostel is located in a relatively isolated area, making it difficult for nearby residents to respond quickly during the attack.
The SUG said the assailants fired several gunshots while carrying out the operation but confirmed that no student lost their life.
The union also acknowledged that some people were abducted but noted that the exact number of victims had yet to be confirmed.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts to rescue those kidnapped and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
