Police Foil Bandit Attack in Sokoto, Recover 43 Stolen Sheep
Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have foiled a bandit attack on Anada Village in Binji Local Government Area, recovering all 43 sheep stolen by the attackers during the incident.
According to the command, the attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday when armed bandits invaded the community, shooting sporadically before escaping with 43 sheep belonging to residents.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’I, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Binji immediately deployed tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the Viable Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), to pursue the attackers.
The police said the operatives quickly blocked possible escape routes and engaged the bandits in a gun battle.
“Overpowered by the superior firepower of the police, the hoodlums abandoned the rustled animals and escaped through the nearby forest,” the statement said.
The command confirmed that all 43 sheep were recovered intact, adding that no resident or security personnel was injured during the operation.
Police tactical teams have continued searching nearby forests to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks in the area.
The Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He urged residents to continue providing security agencies with credible and timely information to support efforts against criminal activities.
Communities in Binji and other parts of Sokoto have faced recurring threats from armed bandits, leading security agencies to intensify operations aimed at restoring peace and safety in affected areas.
