Peter Obi’s Media Office Warns Supporters Against Misinformation, Calls for Focus on Nigeria’s Challenges
The Peter Obi Media Office has urged supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate to disregard what it described as false reports and divisive campaigns aimed at creating confusion within the movement.
In a statement released on Friday by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, the media office accused political opponents of spreading misinformation and attempting to create unnecessary divisions by attributing statements and positions to Obi that he did not make.
The office said the movement remained focused on tackling Nigeria’s major challenges, including economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and poor public services, rather than engaging in political distractions.
“The Peter Obi Media Office acknowledges recent, coordinated efforts by political adversaries and disruptive individuals to create division, misrepresent our leader’s objectives, and foster artificial rifts within our movement,” the statement said.
It maintained that Obi’s political mission was built around national development and improving the lives of Nigerians, not ethnic politics, personal interests or partisan conflicts.
“Let us be clear: our endeavour is, and always has been, driven by a commitment to national progress, not personal ambition, ethnic appeals, or petty partisan squabbles,” the office stated.
According to the statement, while some individuals were focused on spreading rumours and attacking the movement, millions of Nigerians continued to face rising living costs, inflation, unemployment and security challenges.
The media office said Nigeria needs competent, ethical and accountable leadership capable of improving public institutions and delivering better services to citizens.
It warned that engaging in political attacks would only distract from finding solutions to the problems facing Nigerians, urging critics to focus instead on presenting practical ideas and policies.
The office also dismissed reports claiming that there had been changes in the leadership of the Obidient Movement, describing such reports as fabricated.
It specifically asked supporters to ignore rumours about the alleged removal of the movement’s National Coordinator, Dr Yunusa Tanko, and other claims it described as attempts to cause division.
The statement urged members of the Obidient and Kwankwasoiyya movements, as well as Nigerians who support the cause, to remain united and focused on the goal of building a more productive, prosperous and secure Nigeria.
