Access Bank Denies Shutdown Rumours, Assures Customers of Stable Operations
Access Bank Plc has dismissed as false a shutdown notice circulating on social media and WhatsApp, assuring customers and the public that the bank remains financially sound and fully operational.
In a statement, the bank said all its branches, banking services and subsidiaries are functioning normally, with no disruption to operations.
Access Bank also disclosed that it is working with relevant regulatory authorities and law enforcement agencies to identify those behind the false publication.
The bank warned that anyone found responsible for creating or spreading the fake information would face legal action in line with existing laws.
According to the bank, spreading false information capable of causing panic, damaging reputations or undermining public confidence in institutions is an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
Access Bank urged customers and members of the public to ignore the fake shutdown notice and avoid sharing or forwarding it.
The bank also advised customers to rely only on information released through its official and verified communication channels.
