Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week vacation after receiving approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The leave, which began on Thursday, is Shettima’s first official break since he assumed office in May 2023.
His Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, said the vacation will give the Vice President time for study, reflection and intellectual renewal as he prepares for the next phase of his responsibilities in government.
According to Nkwocha, the break will also allow Shettima to review the administration’s ongoing programmes, strengthen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the continued implementation of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since taking office, Shettima has played a key role in coordinating government initiatives in areas such as economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
As Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), he works closely with the 36 state governors, the Central Bank of Nigeria governor and other senior officials on policies affecting the economy and the welfare of Nigerians.
The Vice President has also represented President Tinubu at several regional and international meetings, promoting Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.
He also stood in for the President at major events, including the G20 and AU–EU summits, during periods when Tinubu remained in Nigeria to oversee responses to security challenges.
Nkwocha said Shettima remains committed to supporting President Tinubu’s administration and its goal of building a more secure, productive and prosperous Nigeria.
The Vice President is expected to resume official duties on or around August 20, 2026.
