NMDPRA Moves to Ban Fuel Price Collusion, Supply Restrictions in Petroleum Sector
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has proposed new regulations aimed at preventing petroleum companies from fixing fuel prices, limiting product supply, or entering agreements that distort competition in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The proposed rules are contained in the draft Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Prevention of Anti-Competitive Practices and Behaviour Regulations, 2026, recently released by the authority.
According to the NMDPRA, the framework is intended to promote fair competition, curb the abuse of market dominance, and create a more transparent and efficient midstream and downstream petroleum sector.
