Osun Police Summon Senator Fadahunsi Over Viral ‘Kill Accord’ Remark
The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, over a viral video in which he allegedly called on supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The invitation followed widespread reactions on social media to comments attributed to the senator during an APC campaign programme in Ilesa on Tuesday.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, Fadahunsi was directed to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12, at 11am.
The police said the invitation was intended to clarify the circumstances surrounding the remarks attributed to the senator.
The letter stated that the invitation was based on information alleging that Fadahunsi made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” during his address at the campaign event.
It added that the video had circulated across various electronic and social media platforms.
Fadahunsi Clarifies Remark
Meanwhile, Fadahunsi has denied calling for violence against members or supporters of the Accord Party, explaining that his “Kill Accord” comment was a political expression referring to defeating the party at the polls.
His media office issued a statement in Osogbo titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence, Senator Fadahunsi Tells APC.”
According to the statement, the senator was urging APC supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party through their votes in the August 15 governorship election.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement said.
Fadahunsi’s media office maintained that the senator did not advocate physical attacks against Accord members or supporters and that his remarks were intended to encourage a lawful and peaceful electoral victory.
The police invitation comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
