The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate, Muhamodu Sanni, while he was allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom money linked to a recent abduction.
Sanni was arrested around the Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area following intelligence gathered by police operatives investigating the abduction of three people during an armed attack on Obudu Village on July 28, 2026.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, investigators expanded their probe beyond the scene of the attack to examine the communication, logistics and financial activities connected to the kidnapping.
The investigation eventually led operatives to a Point-of-Sale terminal, where Sanni was intercepted while allegedly trying to cash out the ransom proceeds.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly cooperated with investigators and provided information about his role in collecting the ransom. He also identified two other suspected members of the syndicate, Aminu and Umar.
The police said the information provided by Sanni had helped strengthen their understanding of the group and provided additional leads that investigators were pursuing.
The command said the arrest was part of its intelligence-driven efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks and disrupt their operations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, reassured residents that the command remained committed to tackling criminal networks and preventing them from operating freely.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing the police with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and security operations.
