Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi, has been granted administrative bail by the Osun State Police Command following his interrogation over a viral comment in which he was allegedly heard calling for the killing of members of the Accord Party.
Fadahunsi reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo on Wednesday after being invited by the police to clarify the circumstances surrounding the controversial statement.
The senator’s invitation followed a video circulated on social media in which he spoke in Yoruba during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign in Ilesa and was allegedly heard telling supporters to “kill” Accord Party members.
The comment generated widespread backlash ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Following the controversy, Fadahunsi said his comments had been misinterpreted and claimed that the video was deliberately edited to distort what he actually said.
According to the senator, he was referring to alleged attacks and killings of APC members by suspected thugs in Ilesa and other parts of Osun State.
He explained that his warning was in reference to possible retaliation if the alleged violence against APC supporters continued.
“The video was deliberately edited to distort what I actually said. What I said was that if the alleged killing of our party members by Accord Party thugs does not stop, our party will retaliate,” Fadahunsi said.
He added that he was referring to the alleged violence against APC members and not calling for indiscriminate attacks.
Fadahunsi had earlier arrived at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo at about 2:35 p.m., accompanied by Samuel Etaifo Erale, the Commissioner of Police in charge of election security in the state.
After several hours of questioning, the senator was seen leaving the police premises in his black Jeep alongside other party supporters.
The Osun State Police Command subsequently confirmed that he had been granted administrative bail.
Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi told TheCable that the senator remained under investigation.
“Yes, the senator has been granted administrative bail. But the case still continues,” Ojelabi said.
The police had, in a summon letter dated August 11, 2026, directed Fadahunsi to appear before the SCID to explain the circumstances surrounding statements allegedly made during an APC campaign programme in Ilesa.
The letter, signed by Erale, stated that the invitation was based on information received by the police that the senator had made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” in nature.
The police also noted that the comments had been widely circulated across electronic and social media platforms.
Fadahunsi’s interrogation comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, with authorities urging political parties and their supporters to avoid inflammatory statements and actions capable of causing violence.
