DAVIDO RULES OUT APC, SAYS HE HAS NO 2027 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE YET
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he has not decided which presidential candidate to support in the 2027 general election, but made it clear that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not be his choice.
The singer made the disclosure during an interview with News Central TV on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
Davido said he currently has no preferred candidate for the presidency and would make his decision based on his personal conviction rather than political affiliations.
His position differs from that of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who recently declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term following his victory in the Osun governorship election.
According to Davido, his uncle’s decision to back Tinubu does not mean he is obligated to adopt the same position.
He explained that while he had supported presidential candidates in previous elections, he has yet to find a candidate he is willing to support in 2027.
Davido recalled backing Atiku Abubakar in the past while he was associated with the Peoples Democratic Party and also supporting the APC during the party’s formation through the 2013 merger.
He further noted that his late uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, was a member of the APC and that he campaigned for the party at the time.
However, the singer stressed that the political situation had changed and that he would make his next decision independently.
“Right now I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, but it’s not going to be APC. Everybody should have their choice,” Davido said.
The singer’s comments come as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with major political figures and parties beginning to position themselves for the contest.
