EFCC DECLARES FORMER PENSION BOSS MAINA WANTED AGAIN OVER ALLEGED STOLEN PROPERTY
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has once again declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an ongoing investigation involving the alleged receipt of stolen property.
The EFCC announced the development in a notice signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
According to the commission, Maina, 61, who hails from Biu in Borno State, is wanted in connection with the ongoing investigation.
The anti-graft agency urged members of the public with credible information about his whereabouts to contact any of its offices or the nearest police station.
The EFCC listed its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja as contact points.
The commission also provided a dedicated telephone line, 08093322644, and its official email address, info@efcc.gov.ng, for information that could assist in locating Maina.
MAINА’S PREVIOUS CONVICTION
The latest wanted notice comes amid a history of legal battles between Maina and the EFCC.
In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Maina on a 12-count charge involving money laundering, fictitious bank accounts and fraud.
The court sentenced him to a total of 61 years in prison, with the terms to run concurrently, and ordered him to refund N1 billion to the Federal Government.
His company, Common Input Property and Investment Ltd, was also ordered to refund N183 million and $223,000.
The Court of Appeal upheld his conviction and an eight-year jail term in May 2023.
Maina was subsequently released from Kuje Correctional Centre after serving part of his sentence.
FRESH N738M CASE
Maina is also facing a separate criminal case before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Asokoro.
The EFCC is prosecuting him alongside Ann Igwe Olachi on a nine-count charge involving the alleged receipt of stolen funds totalling N738,612,019.99.
The case dates back to 2019 and was still ongoing as of February 2026.
During proceedings that month, Justice Abubakar Kutigi expressed frustration over repeated delays after Maina’s new lawyer, Emmanuel Wuyi, requested additional time to study the case.
The judge questioned the repeated changes in legal representation and remarked that he had “lost count” of Maina’s lawyers.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter for continuation of the trial-within-trial.
NOT THE FIRST TIME MAINA HAS BEEN DECLARED WANTED
The latest declaration is not the first time the EFCC has placed Maina on its wanted list.
In 2015, the commission declared him wanted over allegations relating to procurement fraud and obtaining by false pretence connected to pension biometric contracts.
He was also declared wanted after failing to appear for proceedings in the earlier pension fraud case.
Maina was later arrested in Niger Republic and returned to Nigeria to face trial.
With the latest notice, the EFCC has again placed the former pension reform boss on its wanted list as it continues its investigation into the separate allegations involving the receipt of stolen property.
