NYSC ABDUCTION: IG DEPLOYS DIG, TWO CPS AS FAMILIES FACE N950M RANSOM DEMAND

The Inspector-General of Police has deployed a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) and two Commissioners of Police to intensify efforts to rescue members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) reportedly abducted in the country.

The deployment follows growing concerns over the safety of the abducted corps members, with their families reportedly facing a ransom demand estimated at N950 million.

The police authorities have ordered the senior officers to coordinate the ongoing operation and work with other security agencies to locate the victims and secure their safe release.

The development has heightened concerns among the affected families, who are reportedly under pressure from the abductors over the huge ransom demand.

The police leadership is expected to strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance and operational efforts in the affected areas as security agencies intensify the search for the abducted corps members.

The deployment of the DIG and two commissioners is part of measures aimed at bringing additional operational capacity to the rescue mission and ensuring that the victims are recovered safely.

The incident has also renewed concerns over the security of NYSC members, who are routinely deployed to different parts of the country as part of Nigeria’s national service programme.

Families of the victims are calling for urgent government intervention as security agencies continue efforts to establish the whereabouts of the abducted corps members and secure their release.

The police have yet to disclose further operational details that could compromise the ongoing rescue efforts.
