The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against using a fake online registration portal being circulated on social media and other digital platforms.
The commission said the portal is not authorised by INEC and urged members of the public to disregard any information directing them to register through the platform.
INEC clarified that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise had already ended on July 26 and that there was no active registration window through the purported portal.
The electoral commission advised Nigerians to rely only on its official communication channels for information regarding voter registration, accreditation and other electoral activities.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over fraudulent websites and online platforms seeking to exploit Nigerians by presenting themselves as legitimate INEC registration portals.
INEC stressed that members of the public should be cautious when clicking on registration links shared online, particularly those received through social media, messaging platforms or unofficial websites.
The commission said Nigerians who need information about voter registration or other electoral services should verify such information through INEC’s recognised platforms rather than relying on unverified online sources.
INEC’s clarification is intended to prevent members of the public from submitting their personal information to fraudulent platforms and to reduce the risk of identity theft and other forms of online fraud.
The commission reiterated its commitment to keeping Nigerians informed about electoral processes and urged citizens to remain vigilant against misleading information.
Nigerians are therefore advised to verify any voter registration announcement directly with INEC before providing personal details or following registration instructions online.
