The Anambra State Government has urged supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to remain loyal to the party and reject calls to support the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 general election.

The state government made the call while addressing political developments ahead of the next election cycle, stressing that supporting Obi or the NDC would undermine APGA’s political strength and threaten the party’s continued influence in Anambra State.
The government maintained that APGA remains an important political platform in the state and urged its members and supporters to protect the party’s identity, structure and political legacy.
It also warned APGA supporters against being persuaded by appeals based on Peter Obi’s previous association with the party.
Obi governed Anambra State under the APGA platform between 2006 and 2013 before moving on to other political platforms. He later contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party.

The Anambra Government argued that Obi’s past relationship with APGA should not be used as a reason for the party’s supporters to abandon APGA or support another political organisation.
The government’s position reflects growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with political parties and their supporters increasingly debating possible alliances and presidential candidates.
It urged APGA members to remain committed to the party and avoid actions that could weaken its position in Anambra.
The government further stressed that political loyalty should be based on the continued development and strengthening of APGA rather than individual political interests.
The call comes amid increasing political activity across the country as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential and state elections.
