The university community of Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its newly inaugurated Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carter Dike Umeoduagu.

The 44-year-old professor of Microbiology was formally inaugurated as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution on October 2, 2026, during a ceremony attended by his family members, friends, colleagues and associates.
However, tragedy struck shortly after he assumed the position. Professor Umeoduagu reportedly took ill and died on October 3, barely 24 hours after his inauguration.
His sudden passing has sparked shock and grief within the university community and among those who knew him.

Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, Umeoduagu had also served as a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, where he represented the Aguata 1 Constituency.
His death came at a particularly significant period for Tansian University, which has reportedly been dealing with a prolonged crisis.
As of the time of the report, the circumstances surrounding the professor’s sudden illness and death had not been publicly disclosed.
The academic community and those close to the late Vice-Chancellor are now mourning the loss of a professor who had only just begun his tenure as the head of the university.
