APO-KARSHI, BWARI-KUBWA ROADS WILL BE READY BY DECEMBER — FCT MINISTER

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that the long-awaited Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa roads will be completed and opened for public use before the end of December 2026.

Wike gave the assurance on Thursday, September 24, 2026, while speaking with journalists during an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects across satellite communities in Abuja.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded on the Apo-Karshi road, noting that the project, which was initially awarded in 2010, had suffered prolonged delays under the previous administration.

He explained that the present administration had revoked and re-awarded the contract to ensure its completion.

According to Wike, the contractor handling the project had assured the government that the road would be ready for handover by November 2026.

He described the development as a major achievement, considering the importance of the road to residents and commuters travelling within the area.

BWARI-KUBWA ROAD COMPLETION

During his visit to Bwari, the minister was welcomed by a large crowd of residents who came out to witness the inspection of the ongoing construction work.

Wike disclosed that SCC Nigeria Limited, the contractor responsible for the Bwari-Kubwa road project, had also committed to delivering the road before the end of the year.

He acknowledged that persistent rainfall had affected the pace of construction but expressed confidence that the contractor would meet the agreed deadline.

The minister commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending infrastructure development beyond Abuja’s city centre to satellite towns, where residents have faced transportation and accessibility challenges.

He further disclosed that more than ten infrastructure projects were expected to be commissioned across the FCT before the next general elections, exceeding the administration’s earlier commitment to commission ten projects.

WIKE EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE IN TINUBU’S RE-ELECTION

Speaking on the political situation ahead of the 2027 general elections, Wike expressed confidence that President Tinubu and other candidates supported by the ruling political camp would secure victory in the FCT.

He attributed his optimism to the administration’s infrastructure achievements, arguing that the delivery of projects and attention to residents’ needs would influence voters.

The minister maintained that a government that listens to the people, addresses their concerns and delivers essential infrastructure should have the confidence of the electorate.

He also mentioned Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda and John Gabaya among the political candidates he believed would emerge victorious.

WIKE RESPONDS TO CRITICISM FROM FCT SENATOR

The minister also addressed criticism from the incumbent FCT senator, who had reportedly insisted that she would not be intimidated or forced out of the political race.

Wike dismissed suggestions that his comments were intended to intimidate her, arguing instead that public office holders should be assessed based on their performance and engagement with the people.

He questioned how frequently the senator had visited satellite communities, consulted traditional rulers or raised issues affecting FCT residents on the floor of the Senate.

He also challenged her to demonstrate the legislative efforts she had made to address the territory’s developmental challenges.

According to the minister, political office holders must be accountable to the people they represent.

WIKE DEFENDS GOVERNMENT’S DEMOLITION EXERCISES

On the demolition of structures in some parts of Abuja, Wike maintained that the affected occupants had received more than six months’ notice before enforcement activities commenced.

He argued that many of the affected structures were illegally occupied and said the government could not continue postponing enforcement after providing repeated warnings.

The minister insisted that the FCT Administration would continue implementing measures aimed at restoring order and ensuring compliance with planning regulations across the territory.

The ongoing road projects and other infrastructure initiatives form part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve transportation, expand development to satellite communities and enhance living conditions across the Federal Capital Territory.
