Disturbing air traffic control recordings have revealed the final moments of a Learjet 60 crew before their aircraft crashed into a residential area in Florida, United States, killing all nine people on board.
The recordings captured the pilots making desperate distress calls as the private jet rapidly lost altitude, with the situation deteriorating within seconds.
In one of the transmissions, the pilot alerted air traffic controllers to the aircraft’s alarming descent.

“Mayday, mayday — we’re descending 10,000 feet per minute!” the pilot reportedly said.
The crew later communicated that the aircraft had entered an overspeed condition while descending at approximately 20,000 feet per minute.
“We are in an overspeed condition descending 20,000 feet per minute,” the pilot announced before making a chilling statement: “We’re going to crash into the ground!”
The recordings, obtained by CNN, have become a major part of public attention as aviation investigators work to establish what caused the fatal incident.
HOW THE FATAL CRASH HAPPENED
The Learjet 60 crashed shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, along Military Trail in the Cresthaven area of Greenacres, Palm Beach County, Florida.

The aircraft had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was heading towards the Bahamas when it encountered difficulties during the flight.
According to available flight information, the aircraft was cruising at approximately 35,000 feet when the crew reported turbulence, ice accumulation and precipitation.
The pilots subsequently requested permission to climb higher in an attempt to navigate the difficult weather conditions.
However, the situation worsened shortly afterwards, with the aircraft entering an increasingly steep descent.
Air traffic control recordings captured the crew reporting a rapid loss of altitude, with the descent rate increasing from approximately 10,000 feet per minute to 20,000 feet per minute and eventually exceeding 30,000 feet per minute.

The aircraft then plunged towards the ground before crashing and bursting into flames.
Video footage recorded by motorists showed the jet descending rapidly before striking the ground in a massive explosion.
All nine occupants were killed in the incident.
WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO CRASH?
Although investigators have yet to establish the exact cause, early information points to several possible factors, including icing, turbulence and severe weather conditions.
During the flight, the pilot reportedly informed air traffic controllers that ice was accumulating on the aircraft but initially described the situation as manageable.
The crew also reported moderate turbulence before requesting a higher cruising altitude.

However, after encountering precipitation, the aircraft began experiencing serious difficulties.
Aviation experts have explained that ice accumulation on an aircraft’s wings can significantly affect its aerodynamic performance by increasing weight and disrupting the smooth flow of air over the wings.
Former United States Department of Transportation Inspector General Mary Schiavo told CNN that the aircraft appeared to have lost control before impact.
She explained that the footage did not suggest a controlled descent.
Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft’s mechanical condition, flight data, weather conditions and the crew’s actions before the crash.

RESIDENTS EVACUATED AFTER THE CRASH
The aircraft came down in a residential neighbourhood, leaving a large crater and scattering debris across the surrounding area.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis described the incident as a catastrophic crash, comparing the aircraft’s descent to a missile falling from the sky.
He said debris had been scattered around the crash site.
There were initially no confirmed reports of fatalities or injuries among people on the ground, according to the governor.
Following the incident, authorities evacuated approximately 600 residents from a nearby mobile-home community as emergency responders secured the area and investigators began their work.

The road around the crash location was also closed to allow emergency services and aviation investigators to operate safely.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy described the incident as a horrific tragedy and confirmed that the Federal Aviation Administration would assist the National Transportation Safety Board with the investigation.
INVESTIGATORS BEGIN PROBE INTO THE TRAGEDY
The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to examine evidence from the crash site, including aircraft components, flight information and weather reports.
Investigators will also seek to establish whether ice accumulation, turbulence, mechanical failure or a combination of factors contributed to the aircraft’s sudden loss of control.
The final radio communications have provided an important account of the crew’s struggle during the aircraft’s final moments, but they do not independently establish the technical cause of the crash.
The investigation is expected to provide further answers about the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and what led to the loss of all nine lives.
