Five people have reportedly lost their lives in an accident involving the campaign convoy of Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state.
The incident occurred on Thursday along Warrake Road in Uzebba, Owan West LGA of Edo state, according to *TheCable*. One of the vehicles in Okpebholo’s convoy collided with a Toyota Camry carrying five passengers, all of whom died, including the driver. The victims were reportedly returning home from a burial ceremony.
The bodies have been taken to the mortuary at Edo State University, Uzaurie, in Etsako West LGA. One of the deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Edionwe.
A relative of Edionwe, speaking to Headlinenews on condition of anonymity, expressed the family’s grief, saying, “We just learnt that five of them have died after the collision with Okpebholo’s convoy. One person is in critical condition and is being treated at the hospital. We are devastated beyond words. Emmanuel was a good, easy-going boy who should not have died.”
Cyril Mathew, the Edo sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), confirmed the incident. A source added that the lone survivor is receiving treatment at the Irrua Specialist Hospital, and a delegation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is expected to visit the victims’ families to offer condolences.
