Abbas Administers Oath to Three Newly Elected House of Representatives Members

House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas swore in three new members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, filling seats left vacant by the deaths of four lawmakers and one resignation.

The new representatives are Omosede Igbinedion (Ovia South-West/Ovia North-East, Edo State), Joseph Bagudu (Chikun-Kajuru, Kaduna State), and Mukhtar Rabiu (Garki-Babura, Jigawa State). The vacancies arose after the passing of Ekene Adams (Kaduna), Isa Dogonyaro (Jigawa), and Olaide Akinremi (Oyo) in 2024, and Oriyomi Onanuga in 2025, as well as Dennis Idahosa’s resignation to run as deputy governor in Edo’s 2024 election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission held by-elections in August, with the APC securing four of the five seats and the PDP winning one in Ibadan North.

Igbinedion, Bagudu, and Rabiu, all APC members, were sworn in, but two other elected candidates—Elegbeji Ayola (APC, Sagamu-Ikenne-Remo North, Ogun State) and Oyekunle Sunday (PDP, Ibadan North)—did not attend, with no reasons given.

With these new members, the House is nearly complete, with only two seats still to be filled.
