Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, took a lighthearted jab at a power outage that briefly disrupted the 29th convocation ceremony of the University of Abuja. The incident occurred while Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, was addressing the audience.
As the power cut plunged the venue into darkness, Governor Otti, who was present at the event, later shared a humorous remark during his speech. He quipped, “I was wondering if I was still in Abuja or had been transported back to Abia, but then I remembered we’ve fixed power issues in Abia!” The comment drew laughter from the audience, subtly highlighting Abia’s efforts to improve electricity supply under his administration.
The convocation, held on Saturday, celebrated the graduation of 7,896 students, including 4,347 undergraduates and 3,549 postgraduates. Despite the brief interruption, the ceremony proceeded smoothly, with notable dignitaries commending the university’s academic strides.
