The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has arrived at the State House (Aso Rock Villa) in Abuja for his official decoration ceremony.

Disu was seen entering the Presidential Villa at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, ahead of the event where President Bola Tinubu is expected to formally adorn him with the insignia of his new rank.
His appointment follows the resignation of the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, whose exit was confirmed by the Presidency on Tuesday.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that President Tinubu accepted Egbetokun’s resignation after he submitted a letter citing pressing family reasons requiring his full attention.

Until his elevation, Disu served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos. He was promoted to the rank of AIG last year.

Prior to that posting, he was Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later deployed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as Commissioner of Police, Abuja.
Disu is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and formerly headed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force a position previously occupied by suspended officer Abba Kyari.

Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island, Disu enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992. Over his career, he has served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in multiple locations, including Ago Iwoye (Ogun State), Ikare and Owo (Ondo State), and Elimbu and Elelenwo (Rivers State).

The decoration ceremony marks the formal assumption of duties by the new acting police chief amid ongoing national security challenges.
