The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified efforts to broaden its national footprint ahead of the 2027 general election, reaching out to prominent figures including former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The push follows the inauguration of the party’s North-East Zonal Congress Committee, which the ADC described as part of a renewed drive to strengthen internal structures, promote internal democracy, and position the party for national leadership.

ZONAL CONGRESS AND NEW LEADERS
ADC’s factional National Chairman, Nafiu Gombe, disclosed the developments in a communiqué issued on Tuesday after the inauguration held in Gombe State on January 11, presided over by Dr. Muhammad Muhammad.
Key appointments included:
-
Mrs. Patience Alex – Chairperson of the North-East Zonal Congress Committee
-
Mr. Abayomi Adekunle – Chairman of the Zonal Appeal Committee
“The inauguration is a critical step towards consolidating the party’s presence in the North-East and ensuring transparent and credible congresses across the zone,” Gombe said.
The chairman stressed that these steps demonstrate the ADC’s commitment to internal democracy and building a credible platform capable of attracting Nigerians across political divides.

APPEAL TO NATIONAL LEADERS
In a direct appeal, the ADC invited key national figures to join its platform, including:
-
Bala Mohammed – Governor of Bauchi State
-
Ahmadu Fintiri – Governor of Adamawa State
-
Dr. Bukola Saraki – Former Senate President
-
Dr. Goodluck Jonathan – Former President
-
Seyi Makinde – Governor of Oyo State
-
Alex Otti – Governor of Abia State
-
Godswill Akpabio – Senate President
“The ADC believes their experience, leadership, and patriotism are crucial in uniting efforts to make Nigeria great again,” Gombe said.
The party reiterated its commitment to providing a credible, inclusive, and progressive platform that champions good governance, national unity, and sustainable development, while mobilising Nigerians across all regions for a new political direction anchored on accountability and equity.
The expansion comes amid renewed political realignments, following Peter Obi’s defection to the David Mark-led ADC just weeks ago, fuelling speculation about emerging alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
