The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed it will go ahead with its scheduled congresses and national convention despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) derecognising its leadership.

In a statement on Friday, signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, and National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC outlined that its congresses will run from April 7 to 14, 2026, starting with the screening of aspirants and concluding with the national convention.

The party stressed that it had duly notified INEC of its plans in letters dated February 27 and March 28, 2026, and would continue its internal processes regardless of the commission’s recent actions.

The announcement comes amid a leadership dispute following INEC’s derecognition of the faction linked to David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola. INEC officials, citing ongoing court proceedings, warned the ADC against proceeding with its congresses unsupervised, recalling past instances where elections were invalidated due to procedural breaches.

Despite these warnings, the ADC affirmed that it has met all statutory obligations and will proceed with its internal activities as planned.
