Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, has completed a transfer from Atalanta to Atletico Madrid after both clubs reached an agreement. The 28-year-old right-footed winger has signed a contract with the Spanish champions until June 30, 2030.

Lookman, who famously scored a hat-trick when Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen to lift the Europa League in 2024, is reported to have cost Atletico around €40 million ($47.5 million). This season, he has netted three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions for the Italian side.

Born in London, Lookman began his professional career at Charlton Athletic before moving to Everton. He later joined RB Leipzig on loan and secured a permanent deal in 2019. Subsequent loan spells at Fulham and Leicester City preceded his move to Atalanta in 2022.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has been seeking reinforcements following the departures of Giacomo Raspadori to Atalanta and Conor Gallagher to Tottenham earlier in the winter transfer window.

Striker Julian Alvarez has also been struggling to find the net, having gone 11 La Liga matches without a goal.
This signing strengthens Atletico’s attacking options as they aim to remain competitive in both domestic and European competitions.
