Abdulmumin Jibrin, a close political associate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the second time in just two weeks.
The latest meeting took place at the Presidential Villa on Sunday night and lasted from about 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., according to credible sources. The engagement has fueled fresh speculation about behind-the-scenes political manoeuvres, particularly amid rising anti-All Progressives Congress (APC) sentiments in some parts of northern Nigeria.
Although details of their discussions were not disclosed, sources within the presidency suggested that the talks may have touched on the political relationship between President Tinubu and Kwankwaso, as well as wider issues of political alignment ahead of 2027.
Jibrin, who is a former member of the House of Representatives and an influential figure in Kano politics, declined to provide specifics when approached by State House correspondents.
“I won’t go into the details of our discussions,” he said. “But we spoke on matters of national interest and development. Everything is open, and anything is possible.”
His remarks echo his statement after his previous visit to the President on July 30, when he said the conversation focused on national unity, security, and development, while leaving the door open to potential political realignments.
Political observers note that Jibrin’s frequent presence at the Villa could signal a gradual thaw in relations between Kwankwaso’s camp and the APC-led federal government — a development that could reshape the political calculus in Kano and the wider North ahead of the next general elections.
