AIG JIMOH SEEKS COOPERATION AS FATAI EMERGES LAGOS CP

Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has called on stakeholders and residents to support Tijani Olayiwola Fatai as he assumes office as the new Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

Fatai, who previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, becomes the 42nd CP in Lagos, taking over from Jimoh, who has been redeployed to head Zone 2 Command in Onikan.

Jimoh, who assumed office in February 2025, said he was confident in his successor’s ability to lead, urging continued cooperation from all stakeholders.

“I have no doubt in the new CP’s capacity. As I move on, I urge all stakeholders to cooperate with him,” he said.

He noted that security in Lagos improved during his tenure, attributing part of the progress to increased welfare support from the state government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to him, monthly allowances for officers—from Assistant Commissioner of Police to rank-and-file personnel—were increased, strengthening morale and operational effectiveness.

In his remarks, Fatai pledged to build on the existing security framework, stressing that safety remains key to economic growth and public confidence.

“Criminal elements will find no safe haven in Lagos. We will strengthen community engagement and build trust with residents as partners in progress,” he said.

He outlined plans to adopt proactive, intelligence-driven, and technology-based policing, while also prioritising community involvement.

Fatai emphasised the importance of collaboration with the media for accurate and timely information sharing, and highlighted youth engagement as a strategy to promote peace and prevent crime.

He also assured that the command would continue to work closely with other security agencies, including the military and intelligence services, to improve coordination and intelligence gathering.

Addressing officers, the new CP warned that discipline and professionalism would be strictly enforced, with zero tolerance for misconduct or abuse of power.

“Any personnel found wanting will be dealt with in line with the law,” he said.

He added that officers’ welfare, training, and motivation would remain a priority to enhance service delivery.

Fatai further listed his operational focus areas, including tackling violent crimes and cultism, improving road discipline, increasing police visibility, and restoring peace in troubled areas across the state.

Residents were encouraged to report complaints or rights violations through the Complaint Response Unit using the provided phone and WhatsApp lines.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has approved the establishment of seven new police divisions in Lagos State to strengthen security coverage, with areas such as Lekki Phase 1 and Lekki Phase II set to benefit.
