Civil flight operations to Benue State Military Airport to resume soon, as the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force, yesterday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to that effect.

Representative of the MD/CEO FAAN, Clifford Mozeghian, at the event in Makurdi, maintained that the agency was passionate about the opening of Makurdi aero drone to flights.

He clarified that when the facility comes on stream, FAAN will be responsible for its maintenance, adding that medical, relief materials electoral materials and others will be airlifted to the state in addition to the airport being a catalyst for Benue’s development.

Representative of the Chief of Air Staff and Air Officer, Training and Operation, Air Vice Marshal James Gwani, said the pact was consistent with the military’s corporate social responsibility and sustenance of civil relations with its host communities.

In his remarks, Governor Samuel Ortom recalled that Benue has for a long time been “deleted from the map of the country because there is no flight operation.”

He pointed out the nature of roads and insecurity in the country has made air travel relatively safe.
