Airtel Africa, the parent body of the Airtel Nigeria, made this known in its financial report for the year, ended March 2022.
Recall that the Federal Government on April 4, 2022 ordered telecommunications operators including MTN, Globacom, Airtel, and 9mobile to bar all outgoing calls of all SIM cards not yet linked with the NIN.
This was after the March 31 deadline given by the government elapsed. The process which started in 2020 was part of the president Muhammadu Buhari’s administration security and social policies.
As of the time when the directive was enforced, over 72.77 million active telecommunication subscribers who were yet to link their mobile numbers were barred from making outgoing calls.
Airtel noted that the number of its customers that were yet to link their NIN had affected its revenue for the year by 7 percent which roughly N54,599,281.80 ($131,460).
