The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has ordered the recall of Indomie brand noodles (Vegetable Flavour) over safety concerns.
NAFDAC said the recall is due to the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, which could pose serious health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.
In a statement, the agency disclosed that the recall followed an alert issued by French authorities through Rappel Conso regarding the affected Indomie Vegetable Flavour product.
“NAFDAC is informing the public that the French authority (Rappel Conso of France) has issued a notice on the recall of Indomie brand Noodles Vegetable Flavour. This recall is due to the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, which may pose a significant health risk to consumers with allergies or intolerances,” the agency said.
NAFDAC noted that although the risk of the product officially entering Nigeria is low due to the Federal Government’s ban on noodle importation, there is still a need for heightened vigilance to prevent possible illegal entry or circulation.
The agency said it has commenced surveillance actions to guard against the possible entry of the affected product, warning that acquisition through online purchases or international travel cannot be ruled out.
“Distributors, retailers, and consumers are hereby advised to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to avoid the distribution, sale, and consumption of the recalled foreign brand of Indomie noodles,” NAFDAC stated.
Consumers who may come across the product have been advised not to consume it and to discard it immediately. NAFDAC also urged the public to report any suspected sale of the affected Indomie Vegetable Flavour to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its hotline on 0800-162-3322.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting public health, noting that counterfeit and unsafe products remain a major concern in Nigeria, despite ongoing enforcement efforts and public safety alerts.
