US Congresswoman Sara Jacobs has criticized President Donald Trump’s threat of military action in Nigeria over alleged Christian genocide, describing it as “reckless.”
Jacobs made the remarks during a US Congress hearing examining Nigeria’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
Representing California’s 51st Congressional District, the Democrat said framing Nigeria’s violence solely as a religious crisis does not reflect the full picture.
> “President Trump’s threat is reckless, and any unilateral military action in Nigeria is illegal. Congress has not authorized force in Nigeria to protect Christians,” said Jacobs, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Africa.
She noted that the violence affects both Christians and Muslims, calling on the Nigerian government to do more to safeguard its citizens.
Jacobs’ comments highlight congressional concerns over unilateral military action and the complexity of addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
