Alleged Christians Mass Slaughter: We Respect Faith, FG Replies Trump

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting all citizens regardless of religion, following comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who on Friday designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged mass killings of Christians.

In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump described the situation as a “mass slaughter,” claiming that “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria” and accusing “radical Islamists” of being responsible. He also directed members of the U.S. Congress to investigate the matter.

Responding through a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, via its spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, said Nigeria values and upholds religious diversity while continuing to confront violent extremism across the country.

> “The Federal Government has noted the recent statement by the United States of America on religious freedom in Nigeria,” the statement read.

“We remain committed to tackling violent extremism driven by special interests that seek to destabilize West Africa and the Sahel. We mourn all victims of such violence and commend our armed forces for their courage in defending the nation.”

The government stressed that Nigeria celebrates its diversity and will continue to defend all citizens without discrimination.

> “Nigeria is a God-fearing country that respects faith, tolerance, and inclusion, in line with international norms,” the statement continued.

“Like the United States, we recognize that our diversity is our greatest strength. The Tinubu administration will maintain strong ties with partners who share our values of peace, stability, and democracy.”

The statement emphasized that the relationship between Nigeria and the U.S. remains one of mutual respect and cooperation, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to global peace and religious harmony.
