Anambra Police Record Significant Security Achievements in 2025.
The Anambra State Police Command has announced major security successes for 2025, including the rescue of 35 kidnapped victims, arrest of over 300 criminal suspects, recovery of more than 2,000 arms and ammunition, and retrieval of over 60 stolen vehicles.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu shared these figures on Wednesday during the command’s end-of-year briefing at its headquarters in Awka. He attributed the achievements to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and active cooperation from residents.
Orutugu highlighted the disruption of kidnapping syndicates, dismantling of criminal hideouts, and reinforcement of community policing structures as key accomplishments. Improved inter-agency collaboration also contributed to successful joint operations and notable breakthroughs.

The commissioner noted a gradual return to normalcy in Ihiala, with community events such as weddings and birthdays taking place without harassment. He credited intelligence-driven operations and swift responses by joint security teams—including the police, DSS, Nigerian Army, Navy, NSCDC, and NIS—for the successful rescue of kidnapped victims.
During the year, suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, secessionist activities, and other serious crimes were apprehended, and several criminal cases were prosecuted successfully. High-profile arrests included suspects involved in the murder of the late Hon. Justice Azuka in Onitsha and three Cameroonian nationals.

Orutugu acknowledged ongoing challenges, such as evolving criminal tactics and occasional misinformation or non-cooperation from some residents. He assured that the command would continue to refine strategies and enhance operational effectiveness in the new year.
As the festive season approaches, the commissioner announced heightened security measures across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant. He reiterated that firecrackers and social explosives remain prohibited and advised adherence to traffic rules, securing homes before travel, and reporting suspicious activities.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to safety, Orutugu said the police would continue strengthening capacities, deepening community partnerships, and intensifying operations to ensure an even more secure Anambra State in the coming year.
