Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office following a police operation at Wood Farm, his temporary residence on the King’s Sandringham Estate.
The arrest took place on Thursday morning, shortly after several unmarked police vehicles arrived at the property. Authorities also confirmed that searches are being conducted at additional locations in Berkshire and Norfolk.
The development coincides with Andrew’s 66th birthday. Under UK law, misconduct in public office is a serious offence and carries a potential maximum sentence of life imprisonment if a conviction is secured.
Following the arrest, King Charles III issued a brief response, stating that the legal process must be allowed to proceed without interference.
Police confirmed that a man in his sixties from Norfolk is currently being held in custody in connection with the investigation but declined to publicly identify him, citing national legal guidelines and the active status of the case. Officials also warned that reporting must be handled carefully to avoid contempt of court.
Senior officers said the investigation followed a detailed review of allegations and stressed the importance of maintaining objectivity and integrity as enquiries continue. Authorities acknowledged strong public interest and said updates would be provided at appropriate stages.
The investigation is linked to allegations connected to Jeffrey Epstein, including claims of human trafficking and the alleged sharing of sensitive information during Andrew’s time in an official trade role. Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
Multiple UK police forces are reportedly working together to examine new evidence linked to the Epstein case, alongside support from national crime authorities. The Prime Minister also weighed in on the development, stating that no individual is above the law.
