The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ordered local government chairmen reinstated by the Court of Appeal ruling on February 10 to resume duties at their respective secretariats on Monday.
HEADLINENEWS reports that this directive comes amid growing tensions following Governor Ademola Adeleke’s warning against their resumption. During the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected chairmen and councillors in Osogbo on Sunday, Adeleke instructed them to refrain from assuming office to prevent possible clashes and unrest in the state.
However, in a statement issued by APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party dismissed reports circulating on social media that it had advised its reinstated chairmen to stay away from their offices. The party described such reports as misinformation spread by “anti-democratic elements” attempting to create confusion.
“Our attention has been drawn to fake news on social media, orchestrated by a supposed democratic state government, claiming that the APC leadership has instructed its elected local government chairmen and councillors not to resume duties,” the statement read.
Olabisi reaffirmed the party’s stance, urging the reinstated chairmen and councillors to take office as directed by the Court of Appeal’s ruling. He insisted that the APC remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that local government administrations function effectively.
The party also warned parents and guardians to discourage their children from being used as political thugs, accusing some disgruntled politicians of attempting to incite unrest in the state.
“The Court of Appeal judgment delivered in Akure on February 10, 2025, serves as the legal foundation for your reinstatement. Therefore, all APC-elected chairmen and councillors must resume at their respective local government offices to continue serving the people at the grassroots level,” the statement added.
