The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly manipulating membership figures through its ongoing electronic registration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the state chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Oluwabukola Soyoye, claimed that the APC’s e-registration exercise was intended to artificially boost its membership numbers and project a false image of popularity in Ogun State.

Soyoye alleged that the ruling party turned to electronic registration because it could no longer mobilise members openly, insisting that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration had faced widespread public disapproval due to perceived underperformance.
According to him, what was presented as a routine membership drive was, in reality, “a political referendum that exposes the deep rejection of Governor Dapo Abiodun and his black-market style of governance by the people of Ogun State.”
“The people of Ogun are now wiser. They have deliberately avoided participating in open, physical APC registration because they recognise that the ruling party has failed them,” Soyoye said.
He added, “This so-called electronic registration is a system that allows figures to be manipulated behind closed doors without involving actual members.”
The Labour Party also alleged that the digital platform could be used to inflate membership numbers and create a misleading narrative of political dominance ahead of the 2027 elections.
“What we are seeing is not a genuine political exercise but a fraudulent digital operation designed to manufacture legitimacy for a government that has lost the confidence of the people,” Soyoye added.
He accused the APC of “running away from the people” and suggested that the e-registration was an attempt to hide behind technology to avoid public scrutiny.

The Labour Party urged security agencies, civil society organisations, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to closely monitor political activities in the state, warning against what it described as a growing trend of digital electoral manipulation.
The party also reiterated its commitment to providing a credible, transparent, and people-focused alternative to the APC-led government in Ogun State.
Responding to the allegations, the APC’s Director of Publicity in Ogun State, Mr Femi Nuberu, said the party would issue a statement “at the appropriate time.”
The APC had commenced electronic registration and re-registration of members on Tuesday as part of efforts to expand its membership base and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of future political contests.

At the flag-off ceremony, Governor Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the initiative as an opportunity for party members to deepen their commitment.
He said the electronic process would create a credible, transparent, and technology-driven membership database, enhance accuracy, reduce manipulation, and align the party with global best practices in political organisation.
