Membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has surged to 158,697, just three days after the party reopened its electronic membership registration portal following Governor Dauda Lawal’s defection.
The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, supervised the ongoing registration exercise across six centres in Gusau and Bungudu Local Government Areas, accompanied by officials including the state registration coordinator Naziru Ibrahim and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Ahmad Garba Yandi.
The party recorded 60,987 new members in three days, adding to the 97,710 previously registered before the governor’s defection. On average, about 20,329 people are registering daily, a development Nakwada described as a reflection of the party’s growing support base.
During a visit to Bungudu, Nakwada facilitated a virtual interaction between the registrants and Governor Lawal, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for a lesser Hajj. The governor praised his supporters for the strong turnout despite fasting and challenging weather, assuring them that his administration would continue prioritising the welfare of Zamfara residents.
