The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has recorded more than 277,000 new members in its ongoing electronic registration drive.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq made the disclosure on Monday while hosting the party’s National Vice Chairman for the North Central zone, Alhaji Muazu Bawa, who visited Ilorin to monitor the progress of the exercise.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, noted that Kwara is currently leading other North Central states in the ongoing registration campaign.

AbdulRazaq attributed the high turnout to public confidence in the APC-led governments at both state and federal levels, crediting good governance and the people-focused policies of President Bola Tinubu.
“With over 277,000 people already registered, we are not resting on our oars. There is still room for more, and we will continue to mobilize our citizens despite some network challenges,” the governor said.
He also commended President Tinubu’s leadership and economic reforms, which he said have strengthened the party and attracted more Nigerians into its fold. AbdulRazaq praised both the national and state leadership of the APC for ensuring the smooth implementation of the e-registration process, highlighting its role in enhancing internal democracy and credibility within the party.
The governor called on the national leadership to consider extending the registration period to allow more Nigerians to participate, emphasizing that linking membership to the National Identification Number (NIN) would help sanitize the party’s database.

“This exercise is unique. The NIN requirement guarantees authenticity. While it would have been better to start earlier, we are glad the process is happening now,” he said.
AbdulRazaq also proposed a more structured and financially committed membership system, reminiscent of Nigeria’s First Republic, to strengthen collective ownership and discipline within the party. He reaffirmed that APC remains the party of choice in Kwara, promising that the state government will continue delivering people-oriented governance.
In his remarks, Alhaji Bawa lauded the state government and party leadership for an “outstanding” performance in the registration drive, noting that Kwara leads the North Central zone in registered members.
“So far, I have visited Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, Niger, and now Kwara. Kwara is leading. What I have seen here is impressive and reflects the quality of leadership in the state,” Bawa said.

He attributed the success to good governance and effective party coordination, assuring that the national leadership is pleased with the progress.
The state APC Chairman, Sunday Fagbemi, and the coordinator of the e-registration exercise, Mubarak Bello, briefed Bawa on the process. Bello revealed that over 277,000 members had been registered within three weeks and expressed optimism that the number could reach 400,000 if the registration window is extended.
The APC e-registration exercise is designed to update the party’s membership database, strengthen internal democracy, and prepare the party for upcoming electoral engagements.
