APC suspends former Ogun governor Gbenga Daniel indefinitely over anti-party activities

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, alongside his close ally, Kunle Folarin, over alleged anti-party misconduct.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Nuberu Olufemi, confirmed that the suspension was ratified by the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) following recommendations from their respective wards in Shagamu Local Government Area.

According to the statement, Ward 4 in Shagamu had set up a disciplinary committee to probe allegations of anti-party activities leveled against Daniel. Similarly, Ward 6 in Shagamu established a panel to investigate Folarin on similar charges.

Olufemi noted that both men were formally invited to appear before their ward committees to defend themselves, provide evidence, or seek pardon from the party. However, they allegedly failed to honour the summons, neither attending the sessions nor submitting written defenses.

“They wrote to the members under investigation, inviting them to the disciplinary meetings at which they were to be heard and allowed to present evidence in their defense or request pardon from the party,” the statement read.
“However, both members failed to respond to the invitations extended to them in writing, failed to provide a written defense, and failed to attend the disciplinary meetings at which they were to be given the opportunity to defend themselves.”

The development deepens internal tensions within the Ogun APC, coming at a time when the party is working to consolidate its base ahead of the next electoral cycle.
