The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Nigerians to put national interest above politics, following comments by Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on the U.S. designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”

APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, in a statement on Tuesday, accused Obi of politicising a sensitive national issue and displaying “selective outrage” instead of showing statesmanship. He said leaders should defend Nigeria’s image through responsible communication and unity, not exploit the nation’s challenges for political gain.
Oladejo stressed that the Bola Tinubu administration is implementing reforms to enhance security, improve military coordination, and address economic issues fueling insecurity. He urged citizens to remain patient as the benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda unfold.
He added that patriotism and constructive dialogue across political lines are vital for stability and national progress, warning that divisive statements could weaken public confidence.

The U.S. recently re-listed Nigeria for alleged religious freedom violations — a move the Federal Government dismissed as inaccurate, reaffirming its commitment to citizens’ rights.
