The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in five of the six chairmanship seats contested in the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with just one win.

Results released on Sunday showed that the APC clinched chairmanship positions in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Abaji, Bwari, Kwali and Kuje, while the PDP recorded its only victory in Gwagwalada Area Council.
In Gwagwalada, PDP candidate Mohammed Kasim emerged winner after polling 22,165 votes, defeating the APC’s Yahaya Shehu, who garnered 17,788 votes. Other parties trailed behind with significantly fewer votes.

The APC also dominated in Bwari Area Council, where Joshua Ishaku won the chairmanship with 18,466 votes, comfortably ahead of his closest challengers.
In Abuja Municipal Area Council, the APC retained control as Christopher Maikalangu was re-elected after securing 40,295 votes, far surpassing candidates from other parties.

Abaji Area Council also fell to the APC, with Umar Abdullahi Abubakar winning the chairmanship after polling 15,536 votes, well ahead of his rivals.
Similarly, in Kwali Area Council, APC candidate Nuhu Daniel defeated PDP’s Haruna Pai, recording 17,032 votes against 8,575. The APC continued its strong showing in Kuje Area Council, where Danjuma Shekwolo emerged victorious with 17,269 votes, edging out the PDP candidate.

Following the announcement of the results, the leadership of the electoral body reiterated its commitment to ensuring credible polls, stressing that election outcomes should be determined at polling units rather than through prolonged court battles.
With the APC taking control of most area councils in the FCT, reactions continue to trail the outcome, as observers debate the overall credibility of the process.
