APC’s Iyiola Omisore Hits Supporter with Broom During Governorship Declaration in Osun (Video)

Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has drawn widespread attention after a video surfaced showing him striking a supporter with a broom — the APC’s official party symbol — during his governorship declaration event in Osun State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the APC State Secretariat along the Osogbo–Gbongan Road in Osogbo, where Omisore officially announced his intention to contest the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

While addressing a crowd of party loyalists gathered for the declaration, Omisore reportedly grabbed a broom from the stage and lightly hit a supporter amid cheers from the crowd. The action, captured on video, quickly went viral on social media.

The footage has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians online. Some social media users interpreted the act as a symbolic display of discipline, while others criticized it as an inappropriate show of aggression from a political aspirant.

On X (formerly Twitter), users shared varying opinions:

  • @ariys_antic wrote: “This shows a disciplined man… not the one who would see disorderliness and can’t do anything.”

  • @e_ekenem quipped: “Them don dey chop beating already even when he never enter.”

  • @yeankhar joked: “One candidate will dance for you, the other one will wipe your broom for head. Osun people, the choice is yours.”

Speaking earlier at the event, Omisore, who previously served as both Deputy Governor and Senator representing Osun East, expressed confidence in securing the APC governorship ticket.

He highlighted his experience in governance and political leadership, claiming that Osun people are yearning for “effective and responsible governance” after what he described as three years of underperformance under the current administration.

“My political pedigree, competence, and experience speak for me. Osun deserves better leadership, and that’s what I’m offering,” Omisore declared.

The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on August 8, 2026, with several aspirants expected to vie for the APC ticket ahead of the polls.
