Aregbesola, Ex-Deputy Governor Slam Burning of Ekiti ADC Office as ‘Political Terrorism’

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, and former Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, have condemned the burning of the party’s secretariat in Ado Ekiti, calling it a dangerous attack on democracy. On Tuesday, October 22, 2025, residents and ADC members discovered the secretariat destroyed, with office equipment, chairs, canopies, and sound systems reduced to ashes. Later that day, suspected hoodlums invaded the venue of a planned ADC affirmation ceremony, attacking members, vandalizing vehicles and motorcycles, and disrupting preparations.

Aregbesola, who visited the site after the attackers fled, labeled the incident a “shameful display of intolerance” and a slide toward fascism, accusing those who gained power through democracy of using violence to silence opposition. He criticized security agencies for failing to protect ADC members and property, calling it a constitutional violation. Olusola-Eleka echoed this, branding the attack “political terrorism” and faulting the police for not responding promptly despite early reports of the midnight fire.

Ekiti ADC Chairman Ilesanmi Omolayo reported that several members were injured and are receiving hospital treatment, alleging the attack aimed to intimidate the party due to its rising popularity. ADC governorship aspirant and former High Commissioner to Canada, Dare Bejide, called the assault barbaric and an affront to democracy. Police Public Relations Officer SP Sunday Abutu confirmed the incident, stating that Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo has ordered a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
