The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called on troops of Operation HADIN KAI to remain vigilant and maintain an assertive stance in ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s North-East.
The statement, released on Thursday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of JTF Operation HADIN KAI, highlighted that Shaibu made the remarks during an operational assessment visit to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force in Maiduguri, Borno State. The visit aimed to evaluate operational effectiveness, assess the security situation, and strengthen collaboration with key security stakeholders.

During the visit, the COAS commended the resilience of the troops and stressed the importance of avoiding complacency. “Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has charged troops of Operation HADIN KAI to sustain vigilance, remain alert, and maintain an aggressive posture in ongoing operations against terrorists in the North East,” the statement noted.
He also urged theatre commanders to enhance coordination and intelligence-sharing while continuing operations designed to deny terrorists freedom of movement across the region.

Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the Theatre Commander, briefed the Army chief on ongoing operations and operational challenges in the field.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum welcomed the Army chief and described his appointment as the 25th COAS as well deserved. The governor commended General Shaibu’s previous operational leadership in the region and expressed confidence in the Army’s ability to maintain security. He encouraged troops not to be discouraged by isolated incidents and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working closely with the Nigerian Military and other security agencies.

In response, General Shaibu acknowledged the support of the Borno State government and assured that the Nigerian Army would continue to intensify efforts to restore lasting peace and normalcy across Borno State and the North-East.
Senior officers from Army Headquarters accompanied the COAS on the visit.
