Army Loses Lieutenant Colonel, Others in Borno as Troops Thwart Boko Haram Attack

Troops of Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI under the 21 Special Armoured Brigade successfully foiled a Boko Haram attack on October 17, 2025, in the Kashimri area of Bama Local Government Area, Borno State.

The troops located and destroyed terrorist camps, neutralizing several insurgents and injuring others, preventing attacks on civilians and disruptions to socio-economic activities. However, the operation resulted in the loss of Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko, Commanding Officer of the 202 Tank Battalion, and other soldiers in a fierce gunfight.

The Nigerian Army honored their sacrifice, emphasizing their enduring legacy in the fight for peace. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, extended condolences to the families, reaffirming the army’s commitment to eliminating terrorism. The public and media were urged to refrain from sharing images of fallen soldiers until their families are notified, to preserve their dignity and privacy.
