AS GOVERNOR, BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE IS GOING, HE MOVED MONEY DIRECTLY FROM GOVERNMENT TO BDC – OLUKOYEDE

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has alleged that the governor’s actions were driven by the awareness that his tenure was nearing its end. Speaking in an interview monitored by Channels Television, Olukoyede explained that the move was allegedly designed to hastily convert and transfer funds in a way that would make it difficult for anti-corruption agencies to trace and recover the money.

He disclosed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission uncovered the suspected transactions while investigating cases of financial misconduct involving public office holders. According to him, the direct transfer of government funds to Bureau De Change (BDC) operators is a clear violation of financial regulations and raises serious red flags regarding money laundering and abuse of office.

Olukoyede emphasised that the commission remains committed to due process and accountability, stressing that no individual would be shielded from investigation because of their position or influence.

“As a sitting governor, knowing that his time in office was coming to an end, he moved funds directly from government accounts to BDCs,” Olukoyede was quoted as saying.

He further reaffirmed the EFCC’s resolve to strengthen the fight against corruption and recover looted public funds in order to safeguard Nigeria’s economy.
