Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and several other political figures visited the gravesite of the late President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Daura, Katsina State, to pay their respects and offer prayers.
Among those present was former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha. The delegation, made up largely of opposition coalition members, gathered at the burial site to pray for the repose of Buhari’s soul.
Buhari, a former military Head of State and Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, died on Sunday at a clinic in London after a prolonged illness.
His remains were flown back to Nigeria on Tuesday by Vice President Kashim Shettima and President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. A federal government delegation, led by President Tinubu, received the body at the Katsina Airport before it was transported to Daura for interment with full military honours.
Prior to his final trip to London, Buhari had hosted visits from key political figures including Atiku and El-Rufai at his Kaduna residence, where they reportedly paid courtesy calls and held private discussions.
