Atiku, Obi absent as ADC unveils new national headquarters in Abuja (Video)

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially inaugurated its new national headquarters in Wuse 2, Abuja.

The event was led by ADC National Chairman and former Senate President David Mark, who was joined by several prominent political figures, including former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, former SGF Babachir Lawal, and Senator Dino Melaye.

In his address, Mark urged party members to remain focused as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. He reaffirmed the opposition coalition’s commitment to using the ADC as its platform for the 2027 presidential and parliamentary contests, following its formal adoption on 2 July 2025.

Mark accused the APC-led Federal Government of undermining democratic institutions and pushing Nigeria toward “a creeping civilian dictatorship.” He alleged that the government had been destabilising opposition parties to engineer a one-party system by 2027, adding that the coalition’s mission is to “rescue Nigeria, rebuild Nigeria, and return power to the people.”

Although key coalition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are part of the movement, both were absent at the inauguration ceremony.

In July, former ADC chairman Ralph Nwosu formally handed over the party leadership, presenting membership cards to Mark and Aregbesola as the interim national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
