Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, labeling it as “political manipulation and outright bad faith.” Atiku accuses President Tinubu of being a partisan actor in the state’s political turmoil and failing to prevent the escalation of the crisis.
He holds the President responsible for the security breaches leading to the destruction of national infrastructure in Rivers State, suggesting that such events occurred under Tinubu’s watch. Atiku further asserts that the Niger Delta region has regressed into violent unrest and instability, undoing the peace achieved under late President Umaru Yar’Adua. He condemns the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other state officials, viewing it as an assault on democracy and attributing the compromised federal infrastructure to the President’s actions.

Atiku emphasizes that punishing the people of Rivers State to serve political gamesmanship between the governor and Tinubu’s enablers in the federal government is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms.
